Reason for the fund
Becca's death on the 13th February 2005, seemed so pointless. Why her? What had she ever done to deserve this? She was just starting out in her adult life. Her family and friends just couldn't make sense of it and thought long and hard about how to bring some good out of this dreadful tragedy.
Becca was well travelled and dreamed of travelling around the world. She always knew that she was a privileged girl who came from a close, safe and loving family and never went without anything that she really wanted.
Becca loved children and ever since her little sister Florence was born in 2000, she talked about how she wanted children of her own one day.
Knowing that we needed to keep her name alive somehow, the idea of the charity started to form. Her uncle Daniel had already put his name down to run in the London Marathon long before and we decided that this would be the first official fund raising event, Thank you to all involved, especially Daniel.
All proceeds from The Becca Owen Memorial Fund go towards sending underprivileged children on holiday or for days out.
We just don't want Becca to have died in vain. We know that had this tragedy not have happened, Becca would have been a truly remarkable woman and definitely contributed to society in some way. Through this charity, she still can.
